I agree that it doesn't have to be Sydney and that Sydney has issues, but I don't think any other state can do it in the next 15 years.

Sydney has:
* Other big business.
* More capital.
* More people, more resources (?)
* Air hub.

That being said, lots of momentum in Brisbane and it's an hour closer to Asia and USA. Plus it's the Data Portability centre of the world with Chris Saad there and now even Cam's going http://twitter.com/cameronreilly/statuses/678706722

I don't think Ballarat or Adelaide can do it without serious, serious effort and money.

To be top 5 you are up against;
* Silicon Valley
* New York
* Dallas
* Ireland
* Israel
* Shanghai
* Bangalore/Mumbai
* Vancouver
* London
* Amsterdam
* Tallinn (Estonia)

Sydney has momentum on its side.

(of course I'm biased, very happy to try Brisbane, although it's an hour from the beach...)

All great points for establishing a Hub somewhere in Oz. None are specific to Sydney -- and there are good reasons to go somewhere other than Sydney.

Sydney's transport system and other infrastructure like water is at breaking-point. Growth should be encouraged elsewhere.
Sydney is already very expensive, which could discourage younger folk moving there/
Regional stagnations is an issue also to be tackled at the Summit. A Hub in another city kills another bird with that stone.

Ballarat is a little over an hour from Melbourne and could be a good choice. Nice symbolism of the Hub as a second gold rush.

Adelaide certainly needs growth, and already has good digital infrastructure in the CBD and a creativity-positive environment.

Any others?
